✈︎ About the Lancaster
The Avro Lancaster was the principal heavy bomber of the Royal Air Force during the Second World War. Entering service in 1942, it became central to Britain’s strategic bombing campaign, recognised for its long range capability and substantial payload capacity.
Powered by four Rolls-Royce Merlin engines, the Lancaster combined endurance with operational versatility. From a top down perspective, its broad straight wing and twin tail configuration create a balanced and purposeful planform that reflects its role as a long range bomber.
In wartime camouflage, the aircraft carries one of the most recognisable finishes in British aviation history.
✈︎ About the Artwork
A top down study of the Avro Lancaster, centred on its four engine wing layout and distinctive twin tail silhouette.
The Battle of Britain era camouflage is interpreted through fine line work, reducing complex surface detail into a controlled graphic composition. Metallic silver ink reflects the aluminium structure beneath the paint, while subtle Morse code typography references early aviation communication and operational signalling.
